Microsoft vai dar smartphones grátis

A Microsoft vai distribuir smartphones com o novo sistema operacional Windows Phone 7 a desenvolvedores de aplicativos. Os aparelhos começam a ser enviados em julho.

A entrega dos aparelhos em julho surpreende, já que a expectativa era que os celulares com o Windows Phone 7 só ficariam prontos em setembro. O início das vendas ao público geral deve acontecer no último trimestre do ano. Uma boa notícia para os desenvolvedores brasileiros é que a distribuição gratuita não vai se limitar aos Estados Unidos. Ela deve abranger os 29 países onde o Windows Phone Marketplace estará disponível e o Brasil está entre eles.

O Windows Phone (ou Windows Mobile, como era chamado antes) vem perdendo mercado há anos. Já esteve presente em mais de um terço dos smartphones. Hoje, segundo o Gartner Group, sua fatia é de apenas 6,8% do mercado. A Microsoft está investindo bastante no Windows Phone 7 para tentar reverter essa decadência. Na semana passada, num evento em Paris, a turma de Redmond mostrou uma previsão baseada em números do IDC dizendo que 30 milhões de aparelhos com esse sistema operacional serão vendidos em 2011. Considerando que a Apple levou três anos para vender 50 milhões de iPhone, a meta da Microsoft não é nada modesta.
